The death of John McAfee

What happened

Antivirus pioneer John McAfee was indicted in the US in 2020–21 on tax-evasion charges (Tennessee) and cryptocurrency fraud and money-laundering charges (New York). He was arrested in Spain and found dead in his cell at Brians 2 prison near Barcelona on 23 June 2021, hours after Spain's National Court approved his extradition. A Spanish court ruled the death a suicide and closed the case in 2023. The charges were never tried.
