DEI on trial: the Jason Arday affair at Cambridge

Status · Independent review commissioned by Cambridge under way
What happened
In August 2026 the University of Cambridge said it had begun an investigation into new information about Professor Jason Arday's academic qualifications and honorary appointments, alongside separate academic-misconduct complaints. He resigned, and his death was reported on 14 August 2026. The case set off a national debate about diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in university hiring. Cambridge has commissioned an independent review in two parts; Part Two is led by Jason Beer KC. The allegations were not tested to a conclusion.
